About us

The Southend Musical Festival is an annual competitive festival of music and drama, founded in 1911.  The festival runs every day for a fortnight in November, and has classes for all ages and abilities in the following sections:
* Singing
* Piano
* Woodwind & Brass
* Strings
* Speech & Drama.
The Syllabus showing all the classes and entry conditions, is published in May on this website and is also available for purchase at local retail outlets.
The Programme listing details of competitors and pieces to be performed, is published in November.
Anyone is welcome to come along and watch the competitions – there are usually three 3-hour sessions a day.  Admission for a nominal fee (£2.00 for a session, or £3.00 all day) will give you access to some wonderful entertainment, and provide a much-needed audience for our performers.
