Southend Musical Festival Home Page

Welcome to the website of the Southend Musical Festival – a competitive Festival of music and drama which takes place annually in November.  Founded in 1911, we are a registered charity, which is self-funding, and run entirely by volunteers.

This year, all classes will take place at King’s Road United Reformed Church (fomerly known as Crowstone Christian Centre), Crowstone Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 8LH.  Overall dates for the 2018 Festival are 9 – 24 November 2018.  Section dates are: Strings Friday 9 – Monday 12; Speech & Drama Saturday 10 – Thursday 15; Piano Thursday 15 – Saturday 17; Woodwind & Brass Sunday 18 – Tuesday 20; Singing Wednesday 21 – Saturday 24.  Our Prize Winners’ Concert is on Sunday 25 November, from 2.30 – 5pm, at our usual venue, as above.

CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES THIS YEAR IS SATURDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2018
NO LATE ENTRIES ARE ACCEPTED
.

PLEASE NOTE: The Festival makes every effort to schedule classes outside of school hours for those of secondary school age.  We would like to stress, however, that visits to the Festival are widely acknowledged to be valuable educational experiences and would encourage those in a position to grant leave of absence from school to regard them as such.  The Festival’s links with the local Music Hub, together with its designation as a Learning Destination under the auspices of the new Children’s University scheme, provide further and substantial evidence of the educational nature attributed to the Festival.

THE 2018 SYLLABUS IS under preparation and will be available from the beginning of May

If you would like details of the classes that are available to enter, please refer to the Current Syllabus pages – if you would like to enter the Festival, you will find options to view our Fees, our Terms & Conditions and our Data Protection and Child Protection Policies.  You can then print and complete an Entry Form and send it, together with the relevant fee, to the Entries Secretary.

There are many ways in which you can support the Festival – by helping as a volunteer, becoming a subscribing Friend, by sponsoring a class, or by making a donation.  Details of all of these options can be found on this website.

If you require any information about the Festival, please contact the Honorary General Secretary, Annette Forkin, on 01702-341195 or email annette.gentleman@yahoo.co.uk (please note recent change of email address)
